The Taxi Prophet

It was a sunny tuesday morning...on my way to work, i decided to take a cab since i have the extra money and i didn't feel like walking over the MMDA provided Ortigas walkway at that moment. Hailing a taxi here in the Philippines is a skill that is developed over years of applying patience and unconditional love. But then my luck had just changed...a taxi drove along side of me and offered to give me a ride! It was the first time it happened to me...so i thought that it was going to be a good day...so i thought.

The second i got myself seated in his little and uncomfortable bucket type seat...he reached for a book in his glove compartment and uttered THE phrase that would start one hell of a ride! "Ginoo, alagad ka ba ng Diyos? o kampon ni Satanas?" (Mr...are you for God or for Satan). I was like "HUH!?" It turned out that this taxi driver claimed to know all about the Bible and started to figure out what was wrong with me...he never ran out of Bible verses to throw at me and would occasionally open his Bible (while driving) and ask me to read what was written for MY OWN ENLIGHTNEMENT! His enthusiasm to convert me into one of his disciple was cut short when i told him that i had my own beliefs and the only thing he should worry about is getting me to my office before 8am...there was a minute of silence before the unexpected happened!

“Bakit!? Dahil alam mo na lahat!!! Sinasabi ko na nga ba! Kampon ka ng masasamangloob!” (why? Because you know it all!? I was right...you’re evil!!!)

You should’ve seen his face! I thought he was gonna throw the Bible at me! He was soooo pissed that he started rebuking me and even tried to cast the evil out of me! He quoted over a hundred passages and indoctrinated me about so many things! From Guadalupe up to Ortigas, i kept quiet and bit my tongue! I was praying hard that i wouldn’t let my sinful nature get the worst of me and take the offensive! Miraculously...i survived the trip!

As he was manoeuvring the vehicle at the front gate of our office, i looked at the meter to check how much i owed him...and then i realized that God already avenged me...The taxi prophet had just turned on his meter a few blocks from my office...so instead of the usual 250 bucks...i only owed him 42.50 pesos! So i reached out for a 50 and extended my hand to initiate a truce...but then he said that he doesn’t shake hands with heretics...

Funny how people take the truths of God’s word and twist it to suit their personal vendetta! I’m glad nothing PHYSICAL happened between us.
