holy weak

We can never enter a state of holiness with what we can offer. We do not have enough will-power or even spiritual know-how to convert our own righteousness as worthy of being set apart. Our standards never did reach the perfect list of God's goodness. Even our good works are considered filthy and unacceptable. How then can we be holy? how can we ever set ourselves apart?

Forget about showy penance and overt acts of physical sacrifices...never in all eternity will God consider our empty pageantry of good works to be sufficient in satisfying His perfect justice. Our arrogance, of insisting that God favors our offerings as acceptable, precedes our inevitable downfall. You cannot veer from the absolute standards of God. He has given the law, not because He sees the potential of man living up to it, but because He wants us to accept the hopelessness we are born in to. We are sinful creatures...we are born with a disease that corrupts us from the inside out. A sickness that leads to death. But because Holy and Righteous God cannot withhold His abundant and overflowing expression of love and grace...He has provided a way...the only way...to regain this relationship and fellowship we humans once enjoyed during the time of Adam and Eve in the cool of the day. And His decision of giving up His only Son, the unique virgin born Son of God, was not based on our holiness...but on His own perfect integrity!

The week of holiness has come and we Filipinos celebrate a portrayal of Christ's suffering, death and resurrection. But never ever think that imitating Christ's suffering will garner you plus points. Because it is never in our strength or endurance where God will reveal himself. It's during those times where we admit that we are weak and helpless that God would make us see, hear and feel His holiness!
